HISTORIQUE

OBJECTIVES

  • Improving traffic flow going to and from Charles De Gaulle airport.
  • Providing quality service to air travelers on par with other European capitals.

WHAT WILL BE ITS LAYOUT?

THIS PROJECT WILL ESTABLISH A DIRECT LINE, RUNNING EVERY 15 MN, TO CONNECT THE GARE DE L'EST TO CHARLES DE GAULLE AIRPORT IN 20 MN.

A POLITICAL PROJECT

THE MAIN DIFFICULTIES LIE FIRST AND FOREMOST IN THE PROJECT'S POLITICAL RAMIFICATIONS AND IN ITS COMPLICATED INSERTION INTO THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT WHILE PURELY TECHNICAL CONCERNS ARE NEGLIGIBLE.

The project’s team (project owners, project supervisors, executive project supervisors,) is currently working alongside the EIC to determine the effects the project might have on the operation of the RER B line and to assess the critical functions that must be maintained.

The original plan for the project was devised under the assumption that the RER B Nord+ had already met the needs of the RER B regarding the CDG Express. These elements have led to a complete modification of certain areas (RADA, the CDG station, among others,) and the feasibility of the project, which was determined in the pilot study, must therefore be re-examined accordingly.

The impact of these modifications is not just technical as it means it will have a profound effect on the timetable as well.

APPRAISAL

“The complexity and history of the CDG Express make it a fascinating and stimulating project to work on. On a personal note, I have acquired a solid knowledge of the rail industry and an insider’s view of its major contributers and their passion for this project.”
